Port Huron-based First Preferred Mortgage Company, a full-service residential mortgage bank is seeking qualified applicants for a variety of positions at both First Preferred and its wholesale company, Michigan Mutual Inc. The company is looking to hire underwriters, underwriting assistants, call center loan originators and outside loan originators to work in Southfield.

Simek Joins Walsh College as major gifts officer
St. Clair Shores resident Stanley Simek Jr., has been named major gifts officer in the Walsh College Department of Development and Alumni Relations. Prior to joining Walsh, Simek was a personal giving officer for The Children’s Hospital of Michigan and corporate development officer for Detroit Institute of Arts. Simek chairs the St. Clair Shores Cultural Committee and is on the Board of Directors for Leadership Macomb. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy and the Planned Giving Roundtable of Southeast Michigan.
Simek earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in radio and television and a Master of Arts degree in public relations and organizational communications, both from Wayne State University. He completed a Certificate in Fundraising Management at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

Denise Asker appointed executive director of chamber
Denise Bateman Asker has been named executive director of the Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce. Asker, 41, who is the chamber’s first full-time employee, was appointed Oct. 1. Her duties include overseeing operations, marketing, event planning, membership management and governmental relations.
Before joining the chamber Asker developed and directed The Cultural Concierge, a regional program of the Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan. From 1998 to 2010 she also owned Asker Consulting, LLC, a marketing communications firm based in Rochester Hills.
